FINAL FIGURES CONFIRM NEW RECORDS AT IMEX AMERICA 2015

Final figures just published for the fifth IMEX America confirm that the trade show broke many significant records.

According to statistics now available on the event’s website, IMEX America 2015, which took place in Las Vegas from 13 to 15 October, attracted a total of 10,732 industry professionals. These included 3,030 hosted buyers, an increase of 4 per cent on 2014. They represented 54 countries with 26 per cent from outside the US and Canada, notably 5 per cent from Brazil, 3.5 per cent from the UK, 3 per cent from China, 2.5% from Mexico and 1.5 per cent from each of Germany, India, Argentina and Australia.

9 per cent of them represented associations, 21 per cent were corporate buyers, 62 per cent were from incentive houses and agencies and 8 per cent were independent planners.

The show also attracted 2,053 trade attendees from 69 countries, an increase of 7 per cent year on year.

The data also confirms that the number of prescheduled one-to-one appointments and booth presentations had risen by 7 per cent to a record 57,000 while there were also 9,700 buyers at group appointments.  51 per cent of meetings had profiles attached, another new high.

Michael Friend from Superior Meeting Services in the USA explains:
“Having the opportunity to meet everyone in one location is great. It allows me to maintain relationships and take things to a whole new level. IMEX is also an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand what’s going on and what’s new on the horizon. When it’s all here, under one roof, I can really take care of business. The global presence at IMEX America really shows how far the industry has come in bringing everyone together.”

Figures also confirm that this was the biggest ever IMEX America. Overall booth space grew by 5 per cent compared with last year’s previous record. There were 3,100 exhibiting companies representing 150 countries and 80 new booths.

Paul McDonagh from the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority adds:
“The quality of buyers has been good and we’ve met decision makers for both incentive and meetings business. This is one of our key events each year and always proves to be a good investment.”

IAEE Announces Top Public Events Competition Winner for 2015 Los Angeles Abilities Expo Earns Top Honors

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events™ (IAEE) has selected this year’s Top Public Events Competition Winner to be recognized at Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition to be held 1-3 December 2015 in Baltimore, Md.

The IAEE Top Public Events program was established in 2011 to honor the best consumer shows in the nation. Events that submitted applications were measured on broad criteria to include sound business practices, stability, exceptional customer service, and how the event serves the community and overall industry.

This year’s winner is Los Angeles Abilities Expo 2015, produced by 5NET4 Productions, LLC. Abilities Expo connects the disability community to live and online resources that promote greater independence. The event brings necessary products and services together under one roof for the community of people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors and healthcare professionals. Every event features new technologies, new possibilities, new solutions and new life-changing opportunities.

“It’s an honor to be acknowledged by our peers,” said Lew Shomer, Owner of Abilities Expo. “This is a wonderful award – not only for those that make Abilities Expo possible, but for the millions of people who live with disabilities every day and who exhibit tenacity and a positive attitude that all things are positive as long as you think they are.”

Because Abilities Expo services a uniquely diverse attendee base, show management engages in a very hands-on approach to create a unique experience for its attendees and meet their individual needs. Customer service initiatives include: American Sign Language Interpretation, Braille and Large Print Accommodations, CART Services for Workshops, Loaner Scooters, Personal Care Service Attendants, Power Chair Charging Station, Service Dog Relief Area and Wheelchair Repair.

Abilities Expo’s event promotion strategies include a wide range of activities via the following marketing channels: digital media, direct mail, email, special promotional events, online advertising, press releases, newspapers, magazines, billboards, directories, fliers, public relations campaigns, radio, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, telemarketing and television. This year, the company purchased a new, more all-encompassing URL for the organization: www.Abilities.com. This action was the direct result of their continuing efforts to reach out to the entire disability community, connecting people to the products, services, information and resources that they need to enhance their lives. The site has all of the show information that people have come to depend on, and is searchable so that visitors can more effectively target the information they are seeking. It also features an editorial side chock full of news, product information and resources available to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from any location. The site offers a network of bloggers and experts to keep the content fresh.

SITE Leader Honored

A leader of the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence was recognized with one of the meetings and events industry’s most prestigious awards recently.

Jane E. Schuldt, CIS, CITE, founder and president of World Marketing Group, Ltd., was inducted into the Convention Industry Council‘s (CIC) 2015 Hall of Leaders during a black tie gala in Las Vegas during the IMEX America show in October. This was the 20th anniversary of the annual Hall of Leaders induction. Including this year’s five honorees, only 119 people have been so honored.

Schuldt started Minneapolis-based World Marketing Group in 198. It was one of the first companies to market Asian destination management companies (DMCs) to the U. S. meetings, incentives, conventions, and events (MICE) market.

Over the years, she has spent a great deal of time and energy helping SITE grow, having served as president of both the SITE International Board of Directors and the SITE Foundation, where she is currently immediate past president. At the latter, she has in recent years championed important industry research and education projects, which fits her long effort through both SITE and her business to inform and connect buyers and suppliers about the power of incentive travel and motivational events.

“My best teachers were and are SITE members who give more than they get, and become better educated in the process,” Schuldt said. “This is a lot to absorb, to be honored for what to me was simply part of the job — to learn the industry, service my clients, and connect to the world.”

She added: “I must say thank you to all my fellow SITE members and to an association without equal in our specialized industry. SITE and its members truly are best in class. I’m so very proud to receive this honor on its behalf.”

Other industry inductees into the Convention Industry Council 2015 Hall of Leaders were:

Patricia Farias Barlow, CEM, CEO, Puerto Vallarta Convention Center and FIDEES

Larry Luteran, former senior vice president of Group Sales and Industry Relations, Hilton Worldwide

Craig Smith, former president (retired), Freeman Audio Visual, Inc.

Amy Spatrisano, CMP, former principal at Meet Green

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s Innovative Culinary Offerings Bedazzle Chaine des Rotisseurs Gastronomes

Centre Wins Third Chaîne Dining Award!

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) Executive Chef, Richmond Lim and Deputy General Manager, Simon Lomas are all smiles after receiving the venue’s second Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Malaysia Chapter’s (the Chaîne) ‘Dato Lau Foo Sun Excellence in Dining Award’ from the Chaîne’s Bailli de Kuching, Dr Julian Wee recently.

Thanking the Chaîne for their continuing support and for the award, Lomas said, “This award recognises the hard work and creativity of Chef Richmond and his 51-strong culinary brigade in continuously ‘pushing the envelope’ to define and differentiate our culinary offering from standard convention centre fare and presentation.

“It also acknowledges the operations teams’ excellent work. The ambience was truly first-class. The décor and behind-the-scenes work was what brought the theatrical spectacle to life. It is not easy to cook for 80 people and serve the first and the last person within six minutes but the culinary and operations teams worked seamlessly to deliver yet another memorable culinary experience.”

The Centre’s win was for her ‘Art of ‘Live’ Cooking – An open kitchen of 10 gastronomic experiences!’ presentation at the Chaîne’s 7th Diner Amical Chaîne des Rôtisseurs held in March this year (2015) that saw a one-of-a-kind ‘live’ culinary performance by her award-winning chefs, matched by outstanding cuisine and impeccable service.

This is the facility’s third accolade from the Chaîne.  The Centre was the recipient of the inaugural ‘Dato Lau Foo Sun Excellence in Dining Award’ in 2012 and received the ‘Bailliage de Malasie Fine Dining Award’ (Confederation of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Malaysia Chapter Fine Dining Award) at the group’s 7th Diner Amical Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

The ‘Dato Lau Foo Sun Excellence in Dining Award’ is named after the founder Bailli Delegue (President) of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Malaysia Chapter, the late Dato Lau Foo Sun. Judging (for the award) is based on several criteria; from pre-dinner experience, menu, wine and food presentation to service, ambience and venue setting, and overall dining experience.
