DESALINATION PLANT Among the many sustainable and environmental practices carried out across Marriott resorts globally, the St Kitts Marriott operates a huge desalination plant that pumps water from the sea and filters it for use through the resort, helping to preserve natural resources on the Island. It also supplements the aquifer and supplies water to the Frigate Bay area, easing the strain on the government’s supplies.
WASTE WATER TREATMENT The waste water plant at the St Kitts Marriott is treated for its effluent and used to irrigate the Royal St Kitts Golf course, which is over 125 acres. There is little or no anaerobic treatment of wastewater. The St. Kitts Marriott Hotel requires 236,396.68 m3 to irrigate its golf course and they produce 272,765.40 m3 giving them a significant surplus of 36,368.72 m3.
SEAWEED COMPOSTING Through a partnership with the Ocean Foundation, St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino hope to complement the existing efforts of The GROGENICS Organization. Simultaneously, this will support the St. Kitts agricultural sector utilizing natural resources from both land and water, enhance farm to table food offerings and generate future employment opportunities. A positive step for all stakeholders and surrounding communities. The St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino also plan to support the initiative with anticipation of available produce to supply the resort.
LET’S RECYCLE SKN PROGRAM
February 22, 2023 marked the official start to the St Kitts Marriott Resorts partnership with the Let’s Recycle Project. Lead entities are ICDF Taiwan Technical Mission and Solid Waste Management Corp. Our mission is to reduce waste going to the landfill by means of recycling and repurposing what’s collected. Our partnership will give focus to hard plastics. Awareness is an integral part of what we do and is essential in order to make the program a success. Our late entry into the recycling project did not stop us from being one of the more outstanding partners. We were 2nd largest contributor of plastics and 3rd largest overall contributor several months back. As of August 2023, we have become the Number 1 best contributor to the program.
